Did you see the Kentucky Derby Race last weekend? The day before the race a famous trainer withdrew his horse from the competition giving a young three-year-old colt a place in the race. How exciting, this colt is now in the game, and he has a chance! Of course all the predictors are against him because his trainer and his jockey have never been associated with any horse in the history of the Kentucky Derby. The young colt is up against multimillion-dollar horses and on the morning of the race, his odds of winning are 80 to 1.  

But guess what happens? Halfway around the track, the colt is 16 horses back from the lead, then he starts moving, and begins working his way through the crowded pack, finding an opportunity here and there to improve his position. Then as he heads towards the finish line, he has moved from fifth place to fourth place and still no one even notices him! Even the commentators are focused on the battle between the two famous front-runners. Just seconds before the finish, he suddenly and magically passes the two famous front-runners. The commentators struggle to identify him, but the long shot Rich Strike wins the 2022 Kentucky Derby!

Winners take any situation they find themselves in and look for opportunities to learn and grow. Winners believe in all the possibilities, and don’t let anyone count them out! Winners take action to bring about improvement. Persistence and determination beat the odds every time!
